W.H.O. Declares Region One of The Healthiest Places in the World to Live!

Javea sits at the heart of the region declared by the World Health Organization as one of the healthiest places in the world to live. Th air quality is excellent, summer is hot without being unbearable, winter is cool but not freezing and the beaches are impeccably clean. It should be no surprise then that so many British Nationals want to leave behind the damp and cold in exchange for the healthy, warm climate Javea has to offer.

Temperatures in the summer months of July and August can reach the upper thirties, but due to Javea's location this is usually accompanied by refreshing gentle breezes. In winter the temperature in the coolest months of January and February, this drops to below ten degrees. Very, very occassionally it has been known to snow, but this is a VERY rare occurrence.

Humidity levels are also usually quite low. Sometimes this rises and it can get a little sticky when the sea breeze brings in some low cloud. Yet these periods are usually very short lived as the sea breezes change the air regularly.

Now and again, on just a couple of days a year, strong winds travel across Northern Africa and pick up the extreme of the Sahara desert. By the time these have travelled across the Mediterranean the air has cooled substantially, but it creates very high air temperatures which will linger for a few hours around Javea and Montgo. Within a few hours temperatures drop down to normal, but having sat in restaurants around the port when this unusual event happens, it is quite an experience and younger ones and very older persons will not enjoy the experience. The good news is the infrequency of such periods and the fact that their duration tends to be very short.

One of the most frequently cited reasons as to why older British persons come to Javea to live is on health grounds. The climate and air quality is a real boon for anyone with respiritory problems, asthma, or circulatory disorders including angina. The quality of the aire really reduces bouts of asthma and the year-round warm temperatures mean that circulatory disorders are not augmented by the cold. The climate also encourages an outdoor and active life, which again assists both adults and children to avoid becoming sedentary.
