Javea could hardly be called a centre of fashion, but it does have a small selection of shops to delight the ladies.

The port area has three ladies wear shops that offer a mixture of local and designer outfits. Most of these are best suited to the Spanish climate, with plenty of linens and cotton dresses on offer. The beach area at the Arenal also has a couple of ladies wear shops that offer quite affordable dresses, skirts, trousers and accessories. 'Jakarta' is a good place to rummage for linens and younger styles.

It is a lot harder to shop for mens clothes in Javea if you are seeking business suits. There are plenty of casual wear and surf shops catering for all the family, which tend to be highly popular with visitors.

If it is bargains you are after, the Thursday market has a large variety of clothes on offer at some very affordable prices. Quality can be mixed, but most of the local community will buy basics from these traders.

For that 'smart casual' look, Lacoste in the Arenal area has a good mix of clothes.

Shopping Days Out

As you can see, Javea has a relatively small offering when it comes to clothes shopping, but don't panic ladies! Let your men folk have a day off fishing or sleeping around the pool, whilst you head off to Alicante for the day. Alicante has a fantastic array of both Spanish and international fashion shops in what is a superb setting down by the marina. You can wander promenades in a delightful ambiance and its all just an hour's bus ride away.

Whilst some visitors to Javea prefer to nip into Benidorm, or Calpe, we would recommend that you invest in the slightly longer journey to Alicante. It really is worth the extra effort and the quality of shops there is way above the tourist resorts.

If you have been to Alicante before and don't mind driving up to Valencia, there are also some good shopping areas there, although for our part, we find Valencia much more of a busy business-like city. Its great if you know where you are going, but can be a little intimidating the first time you visit.
