CyclingAcross Hills, Plains and ValleysOne of the best ways to get around in Javea is to cycle. Cycling as a sport is also extremely popular in Spain. There are two good cycle hire shops if you want to hire by the day or week. One just behind the port promenade and one on the Cabo de La Nao Road close to the beach area at the Arenal. From the Arenal to the Port, about 1km in distance, the terrain is very flat. As is the route out of Javea on the Benitachell and Jesus Pobre roads. Both of these are good destinations to cycle to, although the traffic moves quite quickly, especially on the Gata road during the early evening. Heading out to Cabo de La Nao the road climbs quite steeply, but if you are up to it the sights are very reqarding and a day cycling to and from Granadella is an undulating and winding experience. For hill lovers, the Denia road up and down the lower side of Montgo can offer a good work out, but once you get over the hill, its free-wheeling for a couple of miles. For those staying a little outside the main town, port and beach areas, a bike can be a real boon to go in and out of these areas without having to worry about parking. There are also active cycle clubs on the Costa Blanca, which are mainly Spanish, but are perfect for those taking the sport seriously. As you can see from the picture below, great views of Javea can be found for those who like to cycle a bit further afield. This is the view from the San Antonia Lighthouse.
