Entertainment in Javea tends to be concentrated around the port and beach areas during the peak tourist months of July and August. This is particularly the case with open air music being put on during the back end of August. All manner of traditional Spanish bands perform for free and they tend to be reasonable popular with both locals and tourists. However, the scale remains small and the quality of music is really quiet good. Spanish horns are often intermingled with singling, flamenco guitar and classical insutruments, depending on the programme selected that year.
Organized entertainment can be found further afield in the larger coastal towns and the odd village restaurant, that may offer a small flamenco show.. .
The 'Bang!' comes during some of the festivals and specifically the big festivals. The festival of the 'Moors and Christians' is noisy! Big trumpet guns are let off all around the port area in anticipation for the main show, when locals re-enact an historical battle that finally ended Moorish domination in Spain. If you have a dog, keep it inside, if your young children are scared by loud bangs, keep them away from the port. The fiesta goes on until the early morning, so if you are considering hiring an apartment in the port during including the day of the festival, you have been warned!
More Modest Entertainment
Guitarists often perform by restaurants in order to try and get money and some of these are quite good, others can be a pain. There is a small cinema in Javea, which sometimes puts on English speaking films, but we have never been as we prefer to be outside rathr than inside. Some of the expat bars occassionally have a pub quiz, but again its a rare find.
Between Javea Port and the Arenal there is a mini train service along the beach road. Its actually runs on tyrpes but is very popular with children and takes the hassle out of the walk to and from the beach and port areas.
Javea also has a number of social and hobby clubs that occassionally put on events and details of these clubs can be found on our page Social Scene. As does the some of the art and dance clubs.
Make Your Own
Picnics on the beach, volleyball down the Arenal, bars, restaurants, sunshine and rest. That tends to be what Javea is about, so you may have to make your own entertainment around your villa pool, just keep it peaceful! at night!! Many of the local expats still live on British time and need their sleep!
