Villages, Towns and Other Fun Places

There are a few towns and villages that you won't want to miss out on. Alternatively, depending on the ages and mix within your family, children and parents my want to visit some of the Costa Blanca's main tourist attractions. A lovely place to go shopping or for an evening meal is Moraira and the hyperlink will take you to a dedicated page on this lovely port. Other towns include:

Square at Jesus PobreJesus Pobre is a tiny village just a few miles drive from Javea. If you are looking to rent or buy a house in the region, Jesus Pobre is less expensive than Javea and very much smaller and quieter. You will need a car though.

Denia Pedestrian AreaDenia is just the other side of Montgo. The old town is nice and the marina is quite popular. Denia has become quite residential and is popular with a lot of British expats. ts narrow streets (left) and shops are well worth a visit.

Altea is a coastal town about half an hour's drive south of Javea. It has a long sandy beach and is very popular with older audiences. There are plenty of restaurants and a quaint old town. We find it a bit pricey these days, but the shopping and mix of places to eat is quite good.

Gaudalest is extremely popular with tourists.

Gata is quite unique. It lies mostly along a single road between Javea and the motorway. There are literally dozens of basketry and wicker ware shops that are great to browse.

Church at Jalon

The Jalon Valley has many small villages running through it including Lliber and Jalon. A good, quiet and simple day out is to drive out to Jalon, stop for lunch in the town itself and look around some of the villages en-route. Jalon is the main town in the valley (left is Jalon's distinctive blue church tower)

Lliber is the smallest town in the Jalon Valley with just 500 residents, yet they all seem to congregate in ths main square (left) at one of the two tiny bars. Can't imagine why!

Lliber is also home to the Lady Elizabeth International Senior Shool, but the site is far enough away from the main village to interfere with the traditional life of this sleepy town.

Benitachell (see view below left) is a small town on a hill just fifteen minutes drive away. It is a typical, more modern small town with a few scattered shops and restaurants.

Valley View From BenitachellTeulada Old TownTeulada is a much bigger Spanish town and if you are looking to furnish your home, it is a good place to pick up locally made furniture. The old town square is very Spanish and old -fashioned. The rest of the town is quite built up.

Terra Mitica is the region's largest theme park. The easiest way to get there is to take the motorway and follow the signs.Children love it, but its hard work if you have lots of young kids and some rides are really for teenagers, not younger ones. It is not cheap, but the kids won't be disappointed.
