it really is possible to find food and drink at up to one third of the
prices found in the UK and the choice of supermarket is very varied.
Javea enjoys a good selection of small, medium and large supermarkets
depending on the location. Smaller shops service local needs in the
same way as the 'corner shop' does in the UK. SImilarly, these tend to
be a little more expensive than the others. The big supermarkets here,
however, offer a mix of 'just the same as back in England or Germany'
(like Lidl), or far better than UK top names when it comes to fresh
produce! You will probably choose what is local to you, but our
recommendation is MERCADONA (see images below). There are two in Javea,
but the largest and best is just outside the Old Town on the ring road
to the Port. The other is located on the dual carriageway towards the
Arenal, but although it is the same shop, it it half the size.:
An Amazing Choice of Fresh Produce
When it comes to fresh produce, Mercadona in Javea has the best range
and at very affordable prices. The seafood counter (see below) is just
amazing and amthe choice of drinks, fruit and vegetables is hard to
match. You may not find everything pre-packaged llike M & S or
Waitrose, nor will you find the volume packs of Tesco or Asda, but if
you are prepared to venture off your pre-programmed shopping list, you
will find you want for very little.
