Water
We list this first because we want to get the worst over and done wiht quickly! Javea has had a poor history when it comes to fresh running water. The problem isn't so much the quality, but the quantity. There are no natural supplies to speak of, which means it has to be pumped down from the mountains elsewhere and that makes it more expensive than in many parts of Spain. During the mid and late nineties there were also some shortages. Pools couldn't be filled, the port ran out completely and the local authorities had to bring in tankers, and the rest of Javea had to put up with intermittant availability. Fortunately, these events are a thing of the past, but confidence runs low and unless a full decade goes by without interruptions, then few residents and visitors will stop feeling a little vulnerable. Most hotels, apartments and houses have water deposits now, just in case.
Electricity
Overall, electricity supply is pretty stable and isn't expensive by UK standards. Occassionally power can be interrupted if there is a storm, however, our experience of interruptions in Javea is insignificant to our exerience of regular cuts in Kent!
Gas
Most of the houses and villas lying around Javea use bottled gas, as the gas network is not very extensive.
Telephones
Land line services are very stable and of good quality, with a decent range of types of phones.
Mobile coverage in Javea is also pretty good. A lot depends on your network, but there are a few different providers here who support roaming services charged out of the UK..
Internet and Broadband
Broadband access is very scarce in Javea, but most houses are able to benefit from ADSL through their telephone line.
Satellite and Cable
Cable has yet to take off here, but satellite dishes proudly protrue from most houses. Satellite services are as good as anywhere in Spain, albeit you need to sign up with the right contractor and there are a few cowboy companies offering sub-standard packages.
