Windmills in Javea

A Reminder of an Elegant Agricultural Age

There are many windmills across Spain that are of interest to tourists and locals alike. As you drive out of Javea on the main Denia road terrain rises steeply. Once you reach the top of this plateau you arrive at La Plana (lliterally 'the plain'), which is a good description and a perfect site in olden times to allow windmills to benefit from the sea breezes heading inland.

The windmills are mostly derelict now, but there are enough ruins and edifices remaining to experience just how the local community in Javea benefitted from the natural elements under the shadow of Montgo.

Picture coming shortly.
